Dental Check-ups and Clean can be a pleasant experience at Murwillumbah Dental

It is very important to visit the dentist at least once every six months for a dental check-up and clean to make sure that your mouth, teeth and gums are healthy and in good condition.

Going to the dentist regularly for a dental assessment and examination can ensure that you detect any potential oral health issues at their early stages, treat them quickly or before they become too unbearable to tolerate and take precautions to prevent them from becoming worse.

At Murwillumbah Dental, we believe in making our patients dental experience with us a happy, comfortable and satisfying one.

Our dental check-up and clean is as follows:

A Dental Clean

During the cleaning process, your teeth will be carefully and efficiently cleaned with a particular dental tool call a Hand Scaler. This will be used to get rid of all the plaque and tartar that builds up on your teeth over time.

When the cleaning process is complete, our dentist will then polish your teeth by applying a paste to eliminate any residue that may have been left over during the cleaning process. After polishing process is complete, your teeth may appear shinier and smoother.

A Dental Check-up

After cleaning and polishing, your teeth will then be ready for assessment.

A metal probe with a mirror is used to assess your teeth. It allows us to look in between and behind your teeth and gums. During the assessment we also look for any swelling, mouth sores or redness.

When your dental check-up and clean is complete, our dentist will advise you on what treatments you require to obtain optimum oral health and discuss any dental hygiene problems that were found during the assessment.

FAQs

You have obviously noticed that the dentist uses an examination mirror that isn’t common. It’s a small, magnified round mirror attached to a long pole as a handle, and it’s also known as a concave mirror or just a mouth mirror. It’s useful because it allows the dentist to closely examine all the teeth, even the back ones, and magnification makes it easy to see without the patient having to strain their neck.

We see dental patients for regular checkups and cleans, but also to dental issues. Many of them are caused by poor dental hygiene. Some of the most common issues are bad breath, cavities, rotten teeth, wisdom teeth issues, tooth erosion, tooth sensitivity and discolouration.

In dental surgical procedures, the two most common solutions for numbing/pain reduction is local anaesthetic and IV sedation. Local anaesthesia only numbs the area of the surgery site, while sedation puts the person to sleep. Going to the dentist makes many people nervous, and sedation dentistry can help that. Some patients get both a local anaesthetic and sedation, but it’s very important to ask your dental surgeon if this is something you can do.
