SmileExpress are custom-made for comfort and convenience. For minor crowding cases, treatment can be completed as quickly as 6 months. For moderate crowding, treatment time may take up to a year.
How do clear teeth aligners work?
The aligners are custom-fitted to your teeth and each set of aligners will gradually move your teeth into the desired position.
If you follow your treatment plan as directed, you will wear a new set of aligners every two to three weeks.
To get the most out of this treatment, you will need to wear the aligners for at least 22 hours a day.
The 3-step treatment process of SmileExpress
The SmileExpress treatment process involves:
- Your initial consultation: Your initial consultation is where your dental and oral health is checked, and we discuss with you your desired outcome. If SmileExpress is right for you and your oral health, we’ll schedule the second appointment.
- Impressions are taken: Impressions of your teeth are taken and sent off to the lab. The lab will fabricate all your aligners and send them back to us here at Murwillumbah Dental. This can take 2 to 3 weeks. Once we receive the aligners, you come back and we will give you 3 sets of aligners (enough for 6 to 8 weeks).
- Follow-up appointments: Every 6 to 8 weeks you will come back to Murwillumbah Dental and we will give you another lot of aligners as well as check the progress of treatment. This step is repeated until the end of your treatment. You should start to see results towards the end of month one of treatment.
Can you eat with clear aligners?
The aligners are removable which is great for when you’re eating, drinking, brushing and flossing, or having photos taken.
Before putting your SmileExpress aligners back in, make sure you brush your teeth first.
A clear benefit of this is it doesn’t negatively affect your diet.
You don’t have to worry about avoiding your favourite foods during treatment. Nor do you (obviously) have to worry about brackets and wires breaking.
Are SmileExpress clear aligners as effective as braces?
For mild to moderate orthodontic cases, SmileExpress can be as effective as traditional braces.
A big difference between braces and any orthodontic aligners is compliance.
Since metal braces are bonded to your teeth, the treatment is constantly working. With aligners being removable, you must comply with your dentists’ instructions. As previously stated, you must wear the clear aligners for a minimum of 22 hours every day for the life of the treatment.
If you don’t wear the aligners as prescribed two things can happen. Firstly, it may blow out the treatment time. Secondly, it may mean the treatment ends up not achieving your desired result.
